Abstract

Majid Al Futtaim operates a series of highly diversified businesses putting Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) considerations at the forefront. Its leadership has been eager to ensure that despite being spread across geographies and jurisdictions, all its business operations are in absolute conformance with globally accepted EHS standards and regulations.

To make this possible, Majid Al Futtaim needed a platform that integrates and gives a common picture of the Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance position of its business operations worldwide.

Business challenges

Majid Al Futtaim believes that corporations have an unavoidable responsibility to ensure the well-being of their employees, the communities, and the planet. Therefore, the organization wants to ensure that its business operations must also adhere to the global Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental protection standards alongside driving revenue growth.

However, with business operations spread across the entire Arabian Peninsula and various parts of Africa and Central Asia, such a comprehensive oversight is difficult to implement. For the desired outcomes, Majid Al Futtaim’s decision-makers and strategists must find out:

  • How to bring in the universally accepted Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance standards and apply them uniformly across all its processes and operations with predictable outcomes, avoiding disruptions?
  • How to integrate these compliant processes into a responsive and agile digital platform that can guarantee high visibility and interoperability despite the local variations in language, management style, and EHS culture across Majid Al Futtaim’s business units?

Our approach

PiServe consultants designed a highly tailored EHS application that can live up to the client’s expectations and recommended an Agile approach for executing the engagement. As part of the project, weekly sprints were planned in collaboration with the client, with the main stakeholder acting as the product owner, defining the requirements for each sprint.

The collaborative development and the PiServe team’s firm understanding of the key issues allowed us to release a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) within just eight months. Backed by a steady rollout of features and modules, we completed the project within 16 months and implemented a product across the various company ventures that provided:

  • Touchpoints for the Majid Al Futtaim employees worldwide with the topic of incident management in their daily work
  • Ease of operation and multilingual features, allowing the organization to pull down persisting barriers to progress
  • Complete visibility into incidents for extracting the necessary insights, promoting a constructive culture of failure

Ensuring complete visibility into all the EHS aspects across the board and easily guaranteeing conformance with globally accepted standards across multiple business units.
